Equal Accessibility & Support Everywhere, Inc. (EASE) recently hosted an immersive event at Holly Hill Academy, offering students a unique opportunity to explore the experiences of Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, DeafBlind, Visually Impaired, and Blind individuals. This event was designed to foster empathy, understanding, and greater accessibility awareness among students, equipping them with a new perspective on inclusivity.
Event Highlights:
Simulating Sensory Experiences: High school students had the chance to experience sensory simulations that replicated visual and auditory impairments. One activity that resonated particularly with the students involved using specially designed glasses that replicated the vision of a classmate who recently underwent eye surgery. This exercise was especially impactful for the ASL 2 class, allowing students to experience the visual challenges their peer had faced. This hands-on simulation gave students a glimpse into their classmate’s journey and fostered a sense of empathy and understanding.
